A practical, no-noise checklist to build a stronger Schengen file with better approval confidence.
Filing a Schengen visa as an Indian citizen can feel incredibly daunting due to the sheer volume of paperwork and the rigid standards of the European consulates. Success lies in flawless preparation. Your passport must have at least two blank pages, be issued within the last 10 years, and remain valid for at least three months beyond your scheduled return from the Schengen zone.
Your application form must be filled out completely and honestly, matching your passport data exactly. Crucially, your two passport-sized photographs must comply with strict biometric standards: 35x45mm dimension, light background, 80% face coverage, neutral expression, and must have been taken within the last 6 months. Do not reuse old photos from previous visas.
European consulates assess your financial position to determine if you can easily support yourself without seeking illegal employment. You must present personal bank statements covering the last 3 to 6 consecutive months. These statements must be printed on bank letterhead, feature wet ink signatures and seals from a branch manager on every page, and show a healthy balance proportionate to your stay (minimum INR 1.5 Lakh to 2 Lakhs per traveler).
In addition to active banking, you must supply Income Tax Returns (ITR-V or Assessment Orders) for the last 2 consecutive financial years. If you are salaried, enclose your last 3 months' pay slips and a detailed employment contract. If you are self-employed or a business owner, you must supply your company's registration certificate, partnership deeds, and corporate bank statements.
The consulate must be convinced that you will return to India after your holiday. This is proven through solid professional and personal ties. For salaried employees, a formal, signed No Objection Certificate (NOC) on company letterhead stating your designation, joining date, approved leave period, and salary is highly influential. For students, a school ID card and leave approval letter serve this purpose.
Lastly, your accommodation and flight bookings must form a continuous, unbroken chain. Gaps in your hotel stays will lead to instant rejection. How2Go structures live-PNR airline reservations and authentic partner hotel vouchers that align flawlessly with your itinerary, satisfying the consulate's strict verification process.
