Everything you need to know about the Electronic Visa on Arrival (E-VOA), the Love Bali Tourist Levy, and the mandatory Electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD).
While Indonesia still hosts physical Visa-on-Arrival (VOA) counters at Denpasar (Bali) and Jakarta airports, traveling without a pre-approved E-VOA is a major tourist pitfall. Arriving after a grueling flight only to stand in a 2-hour queue to pay USD 35 (or IDR 500,000) followed by another immigration queue is exhausting.
By applying for an Electronic Visa on Arrival (E-VOA) beforehand, you can skip the payment counters entirely. Even better, pre-approved E-VOA holders are permitted to use the modern, contactless automated E-Gates, letting you exit immigration in under 2 minutes.
Effective early 2024, the Bali Provincial Government introduced a mandatory Bali Tourist Levy of IDR 150,000 (~INR 800) per international visitor.
This is entirely separate from your E-VOA. It is highly recommended to pay this online prior to boarding to secure your PDF receipt containing an entry QR code. Additionally, you must fill out the Electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD) within 3 days prior to landing. Physical custom slips are entirely discontinued. Failing to register these online creates immense friction upon arrival at Denpasar airport.
